Landslide kills 6 of a family

Six members of a family were killed in a landslide at Lighthouse Para near Cox's Bazar town in the early hours of yesterday.

The victims Mohammad Hossain, 53, his daughters Marium Khatun, 23, and Amena Khatun, 14, sons Rubel, 12, and Shukkur, 10, and grandson Elias, 1, were asleep when their house was buried beneath a landslide from a nearby hill, police and local people said.

Two other people were also injured in the incident.

The bodies were recovered by police and later buried.

Incidents of landslide in Cox's Bazar are on the rise due to indiscriminate hill cutting.
