The festival featured musical and dance performances, puthi recitation, an art exhibition, a quiz competition and a science and mathematics fair.

Renowned artist, illustrator and author Sabyasachi Hazra shared his reflections on art, memory, creativity and the purpose of an artistic life during a special conversation titled “Contemplation: An Unhurried Journey Through Art, Purpose, and Life”, organised by Gallery Cosmos at Cosmos Centre in Dhaka on September 19.

A day-long art camp titled "Nazrul Through Artists' Brushes" (Shilpir Tulite Nazrul) was held on Thursday at the District Shilpakala Academy premises in Mymensingh, bringing together 21 renowned artists to celebrate the life and legacy of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

The national festival began on September 11 and is being held across all eight divisions of the country.

At the entrance to Edge Gallery this month, a giant wall text greets visitors with what reads almost like a warning. “For centuries, womanhood was painted in quiet suffering,” it says. “Lobongolotika dismantles that frame.” It goes on to describe 23 women artists reclaiming freedom through works of autonomy, laughter and desire.

The play follows Max D’Rozario, a Bengali Christian chef who opens a restaurant called “Café de Volte” in the fictional town of Kalikotha. At the restaurant’s opening, Max takes control of the fates of four respected citizens.

Written by Nobel Prize-winning playwright Samuel Beckett, “Happy Days” is a major work of the Theatre of the Absurd. The Bengali translation was done by Kabir Chowdhury.

An intensive feminist dance theatre workshop titled “Re-membering Memories . Reclaiming bodies” will begin on September 17 at Charuta in Banani, Dhaka, exploring the relationship between memory, the body and lived experiences.

Organised by Goopy Bagha Productions Limited and Views & Vision Production, the exhibition features cinematic and raw photographs from the making of “An Apple Tree Inside the Head”. The play centres on Kumkum, whose mother, Princess Mahima, was a celebrated jatra performer who portrayed Sita, Draupadi and Behula on stage. After Mahima’s death, Kumkum is left with her mother’s final wish — to have a janaza.

Prominent novelist Hasnat Abdul Hye attended as the chief guest, while renowned essayist and researcher Professor Abul Ahsan Chowdhury was present as the special guest. City Bank Managing Director and CEO Mashrur Arefin also attended the event.
