Cooperation with PLA discussed
Chief of General Staff of the PLA and Member of the Central Military Commission of China General Liang Guanglie led the delegation.
During the meeting, Khleda Zia described the relationship between Bangladesh and China as "excellent" and said the foundations for the ties were laid with the visit of late President Ziaur Rahman and intensified in recent years. She also mentioned her visits to China.
General Liang Guanglie termed this year "very significant" for the Bangladesh-China relationship as it marks 30 years of diplomatic ties and the visit of Chinese Premier to Dhaka earlier this year.
It was announced as the "Year of Friendship" during the Chinese Premier's visit, he recalled.
Ways of intensifying and expanding relationship between the armed forces of the two countries also came up for the discussion.
"The good relation contributes to the establishment of peace, stability and development," the Chinese general was quoted as saying.
Chinese Ambassador in Bangladesh Chai Xi was present at the meeting.
ISPR adds, a 11-member PLA delegation led by General Liang Guanglie was received at Zia International Airport by the Chief of Army Staff Lt General Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury. Chinese Ambassador Chai Xi was also present at the airport.
Later, General Liang Guanglie placed wreath at the SHIKHA ANIRBAN (the Eternal Flame) at the Dhaka Cantonment to pay homage to the members of the Armed Forces martyred during the Liberation War in 1971.
The PLA team called on the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence Affairs Chairman Lt General (Retd) M. Mahbubur Rahman at his office.
