Bulu's predicament

As if that was not enough, Bulu bore the marks of torture on him when he was produced at the court where he collapsed and had to be shifted to hospital. His stay at the hospital was short lived as he was taken back to jail being not allowed to have treatment even for a night. He told pressmen on his way back to jail that he feared for his life.

Meanwhile, his estranged wife filed a case against him that his children claimed to be false. Matters didn't end there, charges of attempting to commit murder and theft have also been levelled against the man, apparently facing the full fury of a powerful minister.

This is, of course, not new in our society that influential people know how to dictate even the course of law. On a previous occasion, filing of a case against a minister landed the complainant in great trouble. There was vindictive counter action when the son of a minister was greatly perturbed by the legal recourse that had been taken to.

Such incidents cannot be dismissed by simply saying that the law is being too harsh to the victims. They make people believe that political clout can be abused even when it comes to the legal process. It is evident how helpless people become when pitted against politically influential opposition. We have nothing to say about the cases brought against Bulu, but one thing is very clear that he is not getting the treatment that he deserves as a citizen of the country (constitutionally equal to his much stronger adversary).

We want to see such highhandedness put out of the way, and rule of law getting the better of this kind of "uneven" legal battles.
