Jica to donate Tk 25cr for safe motherhood programme
Jica sources told BSS yesterday that the four-year project titled 'Safe Motherland Promotion Project' is being implemented with the financial assistance of the agency. The project started this June and will be completed by 2010.
"CARE Bangladesh will work in two places in Narsingdi in the initial stage of the project that will be implemented by health ministry," the sources added.
"At the initial phase, the project will work in six upazilas of the district with the aim of developing the capacity of health service providers of that area. These services will include emergency obstetric care facilities, referral system, and supportive supervision.
The sources said the major component of the project will include promotion of birth preparedness among women, their husbands and in-laws and establishing community support systems for providing timely and life saving maternal and newborn health services.
Resident Representative of Jica Akio Arai and Country Director of Jica Bangladesh Steve Wallace signed a contract in this regard at a simple ceremony at Jica office here on Tuesday.
