Biman suspends senior official hours after promotion amid corruption allegations
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has suspended one of its top officials, Md Mizanur Rashid, hours after promoting him to a senior position.
The suspension was issued Tuesday through a letter signed by the airline’s Managing Director and CEO, enforced under Article 58 of the Bangladesh Biman Corporation Employees (Service) Regulations 1979.
According to Biman sources, Rashid, who had been serving as acting general manager of the Human Resources Development Department, was promoted on May 18 to Director of Human Resources Development. However, employees and officials criticised this promotion, which eventually led to the cancellation of the promotion within hours and his subsequent suspension.
Multiple sources said Rashid had previously faced a departmental case over allegations of embezzling approximately Tk 3 crore in public funds through software procurement. Although he was cleared of the case, the Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) is reportedly still investigating the matter.
Despite these allegations, on March 4, Rashid was transferred from the post of General Manager (Transport) to the Finance and Accounts Division. The very next day, he was appointed as General Manager of the Administration and Human Resources Division, with additional responsibilities of the Director of Administration and Human Resources, as well as the Director of Finance -- both positions ranking higher than that of a General Manager.
