Bangladesh’s RMG exports to EU fall 19% in Jan-Apr
Garment exports from Bangladesh to the European Union (EU) fell 19.33 percent year-on-year to €6.09 billion in the January-April period of 2026 due to intense international competition and weaker demand.
The EU's overall apparel imports from the world fell 10.42 percent year-on-year to €27.77 billion in the same four-month period, according to Eurostat data.
The decline reflects a 5.48 percent drop in import volume to 1,428.88 million kg, combined with a 5.22 percent fall in the average unit price to €19.44 per kg from €20.51 per kg, indicating that both weaker demand and softer pricing contributed almost equally to the overall contraction.
China posted the smallest decline in import value, with exports falling 4.70 percent year-on-year to €7.95 billion during the January-April period of 2026, the Eurostat data showed.
In the same period, Turkey's exports fell 16.60 percent year-on-year to €2.42 billion, India's declined 12.10 percent to €1.64 billion, and Vietnam's dropped 0.70 percent to €1.37 billion, according to the Eurostat data.
