Banks to keep Hajj-related branches open on Sep 25-26

Bangladesh Bank has instructed banks to keep their branches involved in Hajj activities open on the upcoming Friday and Saturday, or September 25 and 26, to facilitate payment of registration fees for the 2027 Hajj.

The central bank gave the instruction today, saying the branches concerned should remain open during their normal business hours on the two days and continue accepting Hajj registration payments even after regular transaction hours if prospective pilgrims are present.

The branches have also been asked to make necessary security arrangements while accepting payments beyond regular banking hours.

The instruction was issued following a request from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Bangladesh Bank said.

“Necessary arrangements should be made to receive Hajj registration payments, ensuring adequate security, for as long as the payment depositor remains present after the transaction hours,” the circular said.

The central bank issued the directive under Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991, citing public interest.

The move is aimed at facilitating the deposit of registration fees by prospective pilgrims ahead of the deadline for registration for the 2027 Hajj.
