Ctg customs house begins destroying 126 containers of expired goods

The Chattogram Customs House has initiated a process to destroy 126 containers of perishable and expired goods that have been lying at Chattogram Port for a long time.

The containers hold around 3,268 tonnes of goods, including 34 containers of substandard dates, 40 containers of expired soda ash and 18 containers of expired feed-grade limestone.

Other perishable and damaged goods include oranges, onions and cashew nuts.

The destruction process began on August 24 at a designated site behind the Chattogram Port Republic Club and is continuing without interruption, according to a press release issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) today.

Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, Border Guard Bangladesh, Ansar and local port police are present at the site to provide security and other necessary support during the destruction process.

The NBR said the environmentally safe disposal of the perishable and harmful goods would help ease container congestion at Chattogram Port.
