HSBC Bangladesh launched the 2026 edition of its flagship Export Excellence Awards today to recognise exporters for their contribution to the country's sustainable economic growth.

Exporters can nominate themselves for the "Exporter of the Year" title in four categories, with eligibility based on annual export revenue: $100 million for ready-made garments, $50 million for RMG backward linkage, $10 million for non-traditional and emerging manufacturing, and $5 million for services.

HSBC officials announced the awards at a press conference at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka.

The commerce ministry and the British High Commission in Dhaka are programme partners, while Ernst & Young (EY) is the technical partner for the event's audit.

A jury board comprising senior management from HSBC, the Ministry of Commerce, and the British High Commission will select winners based on export contributions, sustainability, diversity, responsibility, and governance. Nominations close on September 20 this year.

Md Mahbub ur Rahman, chief executive officer of HSBC Bangladesh, said the awards would honour trailblazing enterprises redefining Bangladesh's global footprint.

On the sidelines of the press conference, the event organisers brought together top officials of previous Export Excellence Award-winning companies.

In that session, Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, chairman of PRAN-RFL Group, said Bangladeshi brands could become global by focusing on value addition and branding and expanding into international markets.

Enayetur Rahman, president of Ulkasemi, said data security, internet connectivity, and power reliability remain major challenges for Bangladesh's technology sector.

He also called for stronger education in mathematics, science, problem-solving, and semiconductors.

Meanwhile, Asif Ashraf, chief executive officer of Urmi Group, stressed the need for reliable power and energy infrastructure for industries, while noting that Bangladesh had built a strong industrial ecosystem over the past 40-45 years.

Since 2010, HSBC Bangladesh has been recognising the excellence of enterprises and entrepreneurs through the awards for their contributions to Bangladesh's development.
