DU extends female hall gate closing time to 11pm

Dhaka University has extended the closing time for the gates of its female residential halls by one hour, from 10pm to 11pm.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the university Syndicate, its highest policy-making body, last night, acting registrar Munshi Shams Uddin said.

For over a month, students from three platforms have been demonstrating with three demands, including 24-hour access to their residential halls.

The students had also rejected the proposed one-hour extension earlier on August 20 after it was first discussed at a meeting of the Provost Standing Committee.

Yesterday, activists from the three platforms staged a sit-in in front of the university’s Senate building while the Syndicate meeting was underway, protesting the proposed extension of the hall gate closing time.
