Study in the US: KL-YES 2027 applications open for Bangladeshi secondary Students

Applications for the Kennedy-Lugar (KL) Youth Exchange and Study (YES) programme are now open until 4 PM (BST) on September 23, 2026. The semester-long YES programme allows participants to live with a US family, attend an American high school, gain leadership skills, and engage in activities to learn about US excellence in governance, business, and innovation. The application link is provided at the end.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Be between the ages of 15 and 17 by the start of the programme (January 15, 2027). Have a date of birth between January 15, 2010, and January 15, 2012, on the birth certificate.
  • Be enrolled in a secondary school at the time of application. Private or coaching centre students are not eligible.
  • Be currently enrolled in grades 8, 9, 10, or 11 in Bangladeshi high schools or colleges. Bangladeshi citizens studying in foreign countries are not eligible to apply.
  • Have the equivalent of a B average or better without failing grades.
  • Provide transcripts from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 academic years. Applicants cannot have a gap year or repeated year of study in the last three academic years.
  • Meet US J-1 visa eligibility requirements.
  • No US experience of more than 90 days in the last five years.
  • Be a resident and citizen of Bangladesh. Dual citizens or permanent residents of the US or any other country are not eligible.
  • Demonstrate sufficient English Language ability to speak and study in English.
  • Applicants cannot have any parent currently employed by the US Embassy or US Mission.
  • Applicants must not have applied for US immigration through family or relatives.
