Amjad's passing an irreparable loss

The passing of Amjad Khan Chowdhury is an irreparable loss for the country as the country's agro food processing industry would not have expanded so quickly without the entrepreneur, speakers told a memorial meeting yesterday.

The programme was jointly organised by Greater Rajshahi Samity and Natore Zila Samity in the capital's Krishibid Institution Bangladesh.

The former army general-turned-businessman and chief executive officer of PRAN-RFL Group, who first took a Bangladeshi brand abroad and pioneered food processing business in Bangladesh, passed away on July 8.

Natore Zila Samity General Secretary Abdus Samad Molla termed him an optimist and brave forerunner always dreaming to embellish the country and who provided a livelihood to many financially insolvent people.

Prof M Moslem Ali, adviser of Bangladesh Agro-Processors' Association, said, "He was a great general, great leader and great entrepreneur."

The association's former president, ASM Fakhrul Islam Munsi, said, "If he was not there, the agro industry would not have come this far. Because of his efforts and initiatives, the industry spread throughout the country. Had he been with us today, the industry might have grown even further."
