BCC official served show-cause notice

The Barishal City Corporation (BCC) authorities have sent a show cause notice to its Executive Engineer Md Anisuzzaman to explain about proposal of a development project which was not approved by the ministry concerned.

BCC Chief Executive Officer Md Israil Hossain confirmed that he served the notice on Thursday.

Citing the notice, Anisuzzaman said an allegation of negligence in preparing the project proposal was brought against him.

BCC officials said the project was about development of different city roads, reduction of waterlogging and garbage management.

The executive engineer said, "We first submitted a proposal of the project of Tk 1,182 crore to LGRD ministry which sent it back with a recommendation to correct it. We corrected it five times reducing the project cost, but to no avail. Last, it was sent to the ministry in February this year."

The ministry is yet to reply to the proposal, said the BCC official. "If the authorities do not approve it, what can I do?" he added.
