Benazir takes charge as new police chief

Newly appointed inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed took charge of office yesterday.

The government appointed Benazir as the 30th IGP on April 8. Till then, he was serving as the director general of Rapid Action Battalion.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan adorned Benazir with the IGP rank badge in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Gono Bhaban, reads a statement from Police Headquarters (PHQ).

He took charge from outgoing IGP Javed Patwary at PHQ around noon.

Javed Patwary has been appointed the new Bangladesha ambassador to Saudi Arabia, while Abdullah Al Mamun has been given the charge of director general of Rab.
