Focus on developing child-friendly libraries
The British Council’s Libraries Unlimited Programme and Department of Public Libraries recently organised a workshop titled “Policy Workshop on the Formulation of a National Policy for Public Libraries” at the Westin Hotel Dhaka.
The objective of the daylong workshop was to review the draft policy for public libraries and collect recommendations from stakeholders, said a press release.
Dr Roknuzzaman, professor of Dhaka University’s Department of Information Science and Library Management, presented the draft policy during the event.
In the opening ceremony, Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, secretary to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, was the chief guest. Dr Abdul Mannan Ilias, director general of Department of Public Libraries and additional secretary to the ministry, presided over the ceremony.
“Our focus should be to develop a child-friendly environment in every library. A robust policy framework and comprehensive national policy is required for the development of public libraries,” said Dr Kamal.
Officials from British Council and Department of Public Libraries, and over a hundred participants attended the workshop.
