Shaheed Asad Day observed

The 51st death anniversary of Shaheed Asad was observed in Barishal city yesterday. Marking the day, district unit of Shaheed Asad Parishad organised a programme in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall.

Addressing authorities, speakers demanded the erection of a memorial in  front of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where Asad was shot dead by police while leading a protest rally against Pakistani military’s oppression on the people of the then East Pakistan.

On January 20, 1969, Asaduzzaman, a student of Dhaka University, sacrificed his life to protest injustice carried out by the then West Pakistan government, sparking the liberation movement like wildfire across the country.
