3 JMB men arrested in Sirajganj
Police arrested three suspected members of banned Islamist outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district on Sunday.
They were identified as Idris Ali Akand, 26, and Omar Ali Akand, 24, sons of Abdus Sattar Akand of Shangasa village, and Belal Hossain, 25, son of Sayed Hossain of Raghabbaria village in the upazila.
Dewan Koushik Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Ullapara Police Station, said a police team, acting on a tip-off, raided Belal's house at Raghabbaria village around 7:30pm while the trio were holding a 'secret' meeting.
The law enforcers arrested the three and seized seven books on Jihad, CDs and training materials from their possession, the OC said.
During primary interrogation, they confessed to their involvement with the banned militant outfit and also disclosed some other names, the OC added.
Miraj Uddin Ahmed, Sirajganj superintendent of police, said the arrested trio belongs to poor families.
Police is trying to find the mastermind who motivated such youths to join the militant outfit, the SP added.
On October 30, last year, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested the main coordinator of the outfit along with his four associates from Sirajganj railway station.
Away in Comilla, detectives arrested a local Jamaat leader at Foujdari intersection in the district town on Sunday.
The arrestee is Mohammad Rezaul Haque, 32, finance secretary of Daudkandi municipality unit of Jamaat, and son of Alfaz Uddin of Donarchar village of Daudkandi upazila.
He is an accused in eight cases, said Mohammad Zillur Rahman, sub-inspector of the Detective Branch of police, reports UNB.
