47 Jamaat-Shibir men held

Forty-seven Jamaat-Shibir men were held in Jhenidah, Pirojpur, Kushtia, Bogra and Habiganj districts yesterday and the day before.

Police in separate drives arrested 15 activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir in Jhenidah town in the last two days, reports our correspondent.

They were arrested on charge of planning subversive activities in the town, said Hasan Hasan Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

In Pirojpur, the law enforcers arrested 15 Jamaat-Shibir men from different upazilas in the district on Sunday night, reports our correspondent.

The arrestees include Abdul Gani, ameer of Bhandaria upazila unit of Jamaat, and its Kawkhali upazila unit secretary Nazrul Islam.

They were arrested on charge of planning subversive activities in the district, said Superintendent of Police Md Walid Hossain.

Away in Kushtia, police arrested five leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir from different areas in the district town on Sunday night, reports UNB.

District unit Jamaat's senior nayeb ameer Prof Farhad Hussain and former chairman of Sadar Upazila Parisahd and Jamaat leader Mosharraf Hossain are among the arrestees.

Police arrested the five over suspicion that they may carry out subversive activities, said ASP Abu Bakkar Siddique.

According to our Bogra correspondent, police in separate drives arrested two Jamaat men in Shajahanpur upazila of the district early yesterday.

The arrestees are secretary of Ashekpur union unit of Jamaat Mizanur Rahman, 50, and activist of the unit Aslam Hossain, 32.

They were arrested in cases for carrying out subversive activities, said police.

In Habiganj, ten Shibir men were sent to jail in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday in connection with cases for vandalism, arson attacks and carrying out subversive activities, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

Earlier, they were arrested from a mess in Rajnagor area of the district town when they were holding a meeting. Police also seized jihadi books, leaflets, computer and mobile phones from their possession.

The arrestees are former president of Habiganj Bindabon College unit of Shibir, Azizul Haque Babul; president of Habiganj Bindabon College unit of Shibir, Amir Hamza; and activists Md Yahia, Masum Bilal, Nazmul Hasan, Rashedul Islam, Sohag Khan, Hafizur Rahman, Moniraz Hasan and Abdul Jalil of Sadar upazila .
