AL leader hacked to death

An Awami League leader was hacked to death in Ichhapur area under Patnitala upazila of Naogaon district early yesterday.

The victim is Shafiqul Islam, 40, son of Setabuddin of Boran village in the upazila. He was a joint secretary of Patnitala union unit of the ruling party.

Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Abu Bakar Siddique of Patnitala Police Station quoted family members as saying that Shafiqul went out of his house, receiving a phone call at around 12:30am and did not return home.

Locals found Shafiqul's body in Ichhapur area in the morning and informed the police.

Police went to the spot around 10:00am, recovered the body and sent it to Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

The body bore stab wounds, police said, adding that they are trying to unearth clue to the murder and arrest the culprits involved.
