Arrestees snatched from cops
Criminals snatched four arrested drug addicts from law enforcers after injuring three policemen at Machpotti in Alangi Bazar area under Dhunat upazila of the district early yesterday.
Police arrested six pro-Awami League activists in connection with the incident.
The arrestees are Shaheen Alam, 48, vice president of Alangi union unit of AL, activists Lipton Mia, 40, Abdul Mannan, 30, Shaha Ali, 30; Jubo League union member Ziarul Islam, 32, and activist Suman Sarker, 32.
The injured are Sub-Inspector Faruk Hossain, ASI Fazlul Haque and Constable Anwar Hossain of Dhunat Police Station.
SI Milon Kumar Chatterjee filed a case with the PS against 11 people, including the six arrestees, and MA Tarek Helal, chairman of Alangi Union Parishad, on charge of attacking policemen and preventing them from performing their duty.
Police in a drive arrested the drug addicts--Ranju, 30, Hanif, 30, Lablu, 28 amd Mithu, 32--in the bazar area.
A gang swooped on the law enforcers on way back to the PS and snatched the four from them, said Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Gaziur Rahman.
Police are raiding different areas to arrest the accused, said the ASP.
