College girl raped, 2 arrested

A college girl was raped by her classmate at eco park, near Bangabandhu Bridge in Sirajganj yesterday.

Police arrested the rapist and his accomplice on the spot.

The arrestees are Md Helal Hossain, 19, a second year student of Rajapur Degree College in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj, and Md Kabir Hossain, 20 of Khamar village in Ullapara upazila.

The victim, a second year student of the college, is undergoing treatment in the gynaecology department of Sirajganj General Hospital.

Md Asgar Ali, sub-inspector of Bangabandhu Bridge West Zone Police Station, quoting the victim's mother, said Helal along with his friend took the girl to the park on Sunday afternoon and raped her there.

Hearing screams of the victim, locals rushed to the spot and rescued her. On information, police went to the spot immediately and caught the alleged rapist and his accomplice, the SI said.

The victim's mother filed a case with the police station on Sunday night, accusing Helal and his friend Kabir.

The arrestees were yesterday produced in a court that sent them to jail, police said.
