Criminals fell 80 mango trees in Benapole
Criminals felled over 80 mango trees at an orchard at Putkhali village under Benapole Port Police Station of the district early Sunday.
Solaiman Bisaws, owner of the orchard, said a gang of criminals entered his orchard on 1.5 Bighas of land at the village at around 4:00am and cut down over 80 mango trees.
Tanjila Bagume, daughter of Solaiman alleged that a gang led by his uncle Ajibar Biswas felled the trees as a sequel to a family feud. "Our family depends on this mango orchard as we sell mangoes worth Tk 2.5 lakh every year, she said.
They filed a case with Benapole Port Police Station yesterday morning, accusing 10 people, including Ajibar Biswas.
Officer in-Charge (OC) Apubo Hasan of Benapole Port Police Station said criminals felled more than 80 valuable Mango trees at the orchard.
He said the accused went into hiding soon after filing of the case. Law enforcers are raiding different areas to arrest the culprits involved, the OC added.
None of the accused was arrested as of filing of this report as of 5:00pm yesterday.
