Five kids drown in three districts
Five children drowned in Sirajganj, Bagerhat and Rangpur districts on Sunday and the day before.
Two minor siblings drowned in Mirpur Dakkhinpara area in Sirajganj Sadar upazila on Sunday, reports UNB.
The deceased are Khadiza Khatun, 5, and her younger brother Shahin Alam, 4, children of Abdul Majid of the area.
Locals spotted the floating bodies of the two kids in a beel (water body) at noon and recovered them. The siblings might have slipped in the water body while playing on its bank, they said.
In Bagerhat, two minor girls drowned at Bakultola village in Sharankhola upazila on Saturday.
The deceased are Nowrin, 5, daughter of Mannan Hawladar of the village, and her cousin Shanta, 6, daughter of Abdur Razzak Mondol of Kushtia town.
Quoting family members, police said Nowrin and Shanta, who came to visit Shanta's maternal grandfather's house, slipped into a pond while they were washing their feet on Saturday evening and drowned.
Later, family members found the duo floating on the pond, rescued them and took them to Sharankhola Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared them dead, said Rezaul Karim, officer-in charge of Sharankhola Police Station.
Away in Rangpur, a six-year-old boy drowned in Munshipara area in Badarganj upazila on Saturday.
The deceased is Shraban Karmakar, a Class I student at Badarganj Model Primary School, and son of Milon Karmakar of the area.
Badarganj Fire Service source said Shraban along with his two friends went to take a bath in the Jamuneswari River around 1:30pm and drowned.
On information, a team of divers from Badarganj fire station rushed to the spot, and rescued the boy and took him to Badarganj Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
