Girl commits suicide in Laxmipur

A girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room at Uttar Bancharampur village in Sadar upazila of the district on Monday night.

The deceased, Ayesha Akhter Reshmi, 10, was a Class IV student of Koralia Government Primary School and daughter of Monir Ahmed of the village.

Police and locals said Ayesha committed suicide after her stepmother scolded her for failing in the annual examinations.

Abdullah Al Mamun, OC of Sadar Police Station, said police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital.

"We are investigating the incident. After autopsy, it will be clear whether she committed suicide or was killed," he said.
