Rape of Thakurgaon Schoolgirl

Human chain demands arrest of culprits

Our Correspondent, Thakurgaon

Activists of different non-governmental organisations (NGOs) formed a human chain at Thakurgaon intersection yesterday, demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the alleged rapists of a schoolgirl of Khalipur village in Baliadangi upazila of the district.

The human chain followed a discussion at the same venue where the speakers said Sujan, 24, son of Hamidul Islam of Charol Chowrangi Bazar in the upazila, and his accomplices picked up the eighth grader of Dogachi High School around 9:00am on October 3 while she was going to the school.

The gang then took the girl to a nearby place and raped her, leaving her seriously injured. Locals took her to the upazila health complex.

On October 8, the victim's father filed a case with Baliadangi Police Station against the rapists, said the speakers.

Though the culprits are moving freely, law enforcers are reluctant to arrest them, they alleged.

Contacted, Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said they are raiding different areas to arrest the culprits.
