Locals foil bid to abduct schoolgirl

Locals foiled a bid to abduct a schoolgirl and caught one of the three abductors at Maderipur village under Pirganj upazila of Rangpur On Saturday.

Police said Faruk, 30, of Saderpara village in Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha and his two accomplices picked up the girl, a Class IX student of Hingerpara High School in the upazila, while she was taking her ailing mother to a local doctor at around 8:00pm.

The gang forced the girl into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and went to Maderipur village in Pirganj upazila. Father of the victim filed a case with Sadullapur Police Station the same night accusing, Faruk Mia and two others.

As locals came to know about the incident, they caught Faruk Mia and rescued the girl. The rest two managed to flee the scene. The villagers later handed over Faruk and the victim to the police.

Police yesterday handed over the girl to her father and produced Faruk in a court that sent him to jail.
