Robbers loot 15 goods- laden trucks in Sylhet

A gang of armed robbers waylaid 15 trucks at Barni on the Sylhet-Companiganj road on Tuesday night and looted goods.

Witnesses said the robber gang, split into three groups, carried out the robbery in the Sylhet-bound vehicles around 8:00pm.

 Policemen were present near the spot but they did not take any steps to prevent the robbery, witnesses added.

Refuting the allegation, Delwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, said police rushed to the spot hearing screams of the truckers and helpers. They also chased the robbers.

On Monday night, robbers swooped on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the road and looted cash and valuables from the passengers. They also hacked the driver of the vehicle, said Jikrul Islam, one of the victims.

Away in Jhenidah, robbery took place at two houses at Hamidpur village under Moheshpur upazila of the district on Monday, reports our correspondent.
