Three housewives killed over dowry, family feud
Three housewives were murdered allegedly by their husbands over dowry and family feud in Jessore, Sherpur and Sunamganj districts on Sunday and the day before.
Our Benapole correspondent reported that a housewife was strangled allegedly by her husband for dowry at Daherpara village in Jessore Sadar upazila on Sunday.
The dead was identified as Khadiza Begum, 22, wife of Akhter Hossain.
Victim's family members alleged that Akhter used to torture Khadiza since their marriage two and a half years back. On Sunday noon, they locked in an altercation over the issue. At one stage, Akhter strangulated Khadiza.
On information, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the hospital for autopsy.
Khadiza's uncle Mizanur Rahman filed a case with Sadar Police Station, accusing Akhter and his family members. None was arrested as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday.
According to UNB, a housewife was killed by her husband over a family feud at Paschimpara village in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur district the same day.
The deceased is Bilkis Begum, 25, wife of Ismail Hossain.
Police said Ismail, son of late Tofazzal Hossain of Haluaghat upazila in Mymensingh, along with his wife and daughter came to his in-law's house to celebrate the Eid.
Bilkis locked in an altercation with Ismail as he asked her to quit job at a readymade garments factory in the capital.
At one stage, Ismail stabbed Bilkis, leaving her critically injured. Four others, including Bilkis's mother Khaleda Begum and their two neighbours, also sustained injuries when they came to save her from the attack.
Neighbours rushed the injured to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared Bilkis dead. Villagers caught Ismail, beat him up and later handed him over to the police.
Away in Sunamganj, a housewife, also an expectant mother was killed allegedly by her husband at Anwarpur village in Tahirpur upazila on Saturday, reports our Moulvibazar Correspondent.
The victim was identified as Marufa Begum, 18, wife of Ashraful Islam, 30, of the village.
Quoting victim's family members, police said Ashraful used to torture Marufa as she refused to give her consent for her husband's second marriage.
On Saturday night, they locked in an altercation over the issue and and at one stage, Ashraful stabbed Marufa indiscriminately with a sharp weapon and fled the scene.
Family members rushed her to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared her dead around 11:00pm, said Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tahirpur Police Station.
