300 performers, aged between 3 and 70, to take center stage in Arthy Ahmed’s monsoon show
The Arthy Ahmed Dance Academy will celebrate the monsoon with the second edition of its open-air dance festival, “Ghonoghota 2”, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Dhaka tomorrow (July 17).
Jointly organised by the Arthy Ahmed Dance Academy and the University of Dhaka, the production will begin at 11 am at Charukala’s Bakultala. The event marks the first major production directed by acclaimed dancer Arthy Ahmed since receiving the Ekushey Padak, Bangladesh’s second-highest civilian honour, earlier this year.
More than 300 performers, aged between three and 70, will take part in the festival. Participants come from a wide range of professions, including doctors, engineers, scientists, researchers, journalists, teachers, social workers, homemakers and students.

The inaugural edition of “Ghonoghota”, held at the same venue last year, featured 110 performers aged between 18 and 70.
Organisers describe the festival as more than a dance performance, calling it “a celebration of new beginnings” where age is no barrier and long-held dreams are given room to flourish.
“Leave your umbrella at home and instead immerse yourself in songs, dance and poetry celebrating the monsoon,” the organisers said in a statement.
In response to the recent flooding in the Chattogram Hill Tracts, a donation booth operated by the JAAGO Foundation will be set up at the venue, allowing visitors to contribute directly to relief efforts.
The event is open to all. Organisers have encouraged attendees to wear white, blue or green traditional attire.
