Arifin Shuvoo, Keya Payel star in ‘Happily Married’, their first collab
Arifin Shuvoo and Keya Payel have teamed up for the first time in “Happily Married”, a Chorki original film directed by Jahid Preetom. The project also marks Shuvoo's return to Chorki after “Unish20” (2023), while Payel makes her debut on the streaming platform.
Produced under Chorki's “Ministry of Love” banner, “Happily Married” is the seventh film in the anthology, with Chabial serving as co-producer.
According to a press note, the film weaves together the complexities of contemporary life, enduring family bonds and the influence of social media. Director Jahid Preetom said the story explores two people from different worlds and reflects on their perspectives on identity, family, society and relationships.
Shuvoo stars as Anis, a sincere and responsible young man from a small town whose life revolves around his family. "After ‘Unish20’, I'm returning to Chorki with a romantic comedy. This is unlike any role I've played before. Audiences are used to seeing me as a conventional strong male character, but this film offers something completely different," he said.
The story centres on the clash between Anis and Anamika, a young woman from an affluent urban background played by Keya Payel. Her character is shaped by the allure of social media, celebrity fantasies and the colourful appeal of the virtual world.
Payel said she was especially excited about the project because it marks her first collaboration with Shuvoo, Chorki and her first time working with director Jahid Preetom.
“My character is someone audiences will fall in love with. It has several layers, and although viewers have seen me in many different roles before, they'll discover another side of me in this web film,” she said.
Preetom added that the film portrays the psychological changes brought about by excessive use of technology and the resulting conflict with traditional family values, while balancing humour, romance and emotional family moments.
Chorki CEO Redwan Rony said every “Ministry of Love” story explores a different dimension of human relationships, and “Happily Married” continues that tradition.
Actor-producer Nusrat Imrose Tisha, who has joined the project as co-producer, said she was drawn to the story because it explored differences in outlook, conflict and the efforts people make to understand one another. She added that audiences would also see both lead actors in refreshingly different roles.
Preetom previously directed “Ghumpori” for Chorki, while earlier “Ministry of Love” titles include “Something Like an Autobiography”, “Last Defenders of Monogamy”, “Kacher Manush Dure Thuiya”, “Forget Me Not”, “36-24-36” and “Dimlight”.
