Bangladesh Mime Federation elects new executive committee

The Bangladesh Mime Federation has elected a new 13-member executive committee following its National Council session held at the Seminar Hall of the National Theatre of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

The council, held on Friday morning, brought together representatives and observers from 35 mime troupes across the country.

The proceedings began with the national anthem under the chairmanship of acting president Solaiman Mehdi . In the opening session, delegates presented reports on their organisations’ activities, achievements and future plans.

The general session reviewed the federation’s constitution, organisational activities, annual financial report submitted by the treasurer, and the annual report presented by the general secretary.

Following discussions, the outgoing committee was dissolved. A three-member election commission comprising theatre personality Zahid Repon, mime artist Dr Israfil Ahmed Rangan and Dhiman Saha Jewel oversaw the selection process.

The commission unanimously announced the new executive committee.

Solaiman Mehdi was elected president, while Dhiman Saha Jewel became vice-president. Khorshed Alam Rubel was elected general secretary, Mezbah Chowdhury joint general secretary, Shahidul Murad organising secretary, Iqbal Javed treasurer, Shahriar Shawon training and research secretary, Snigdha Ferdous cultural affairs secretary, Tanzim Tajwar publicity secretary, and Jahirul Islam Mintu office secretary.

The three executive members are Dr Israfil Ahmed Rangan, Fazle Rabbi Sukorno and Mahbub Alam.

Following the announcement, election commissioner Zahid Repon administered the oath to the newly elected committee.

In his closing remarks, Solaiman Mehdi pledged to further strengthen and expand Bangladesh’s mime movement.

The Bangladesh Mime Federation currently comprises more than 35 affiliated organisations from across the country, including Swapnadal, Pantomime Movement, Silent Theatre, Jagannath University Mime Society, Brajamohan Theatre, Rangan Mime Academy, Dhaka University Mime Action, Shruti Cultural Academy, Shawon Mime Academy, Mirror Mime and Dream Homes Theatre, among others.
