Ethic brings ‘Surongo’ to Syed Badruddin Hossain Memorial Theatre Fest
Ethic will stage its production of “Surongo” today (June 28) as part of the Syed Badruddin Hossain Memorial Theatre Festival and Memorial Award 2026. The performance will begin at 7:15 pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, under the festival organised by Padatik Natya Sangsad.
Written by acclaimed Bangladeshi author Syed Waliullah and directed by Mintu Sarder, the play explores the timeless themes of greed, material desire and the human impulse to possess what belongs to others. Blending satire with social commentary, “Surongo” examines how the pursuit of wealth can shape—and distort—human relationships and morality.
The production features Apsara Afnan, Moni Kanchon, Sukarna Chowdhury, Prodip Kumar, Azim Uddin, Nahid Munna, Rezina Runi, Tanaz Azim, Amena Alo, S P Khan Shaon, Rubel Khan, Dipen Majumdar, Ibne Mabiya, Meherun Nesa and Mrittika Probha, among others.
The production team includes Moni Kanchon as assistant director, Saiful Islam as stage designer, Thandu Raihan as lighting designer, SD Tanmoy as costume designer, Shishir Rahman as music director, M R Wasek as choreographer and Charu Pintu as poster designer.
Sukarna Chowdhury serves as production manager, while Rezanur Rahman, president of Ethic, is the production director.
