Ferdous Ara to release first contemporary album in 31 years
After more than three decades, acclaimed Nazrul Sangeet exponent Ferdous Ara is preparing to release a new album of contemporary songs, marking a rare return to a genre she largely stepped away from during her long musical career.
Speaking about the project, the Ekushey Padak-winning artiste said her journey in music began with Bangladesh Television auditions in the early 1970s, where she was enlisted as both a Nazrul Sangeet and modern song performer. However, family preferences led her to focus primarily on Nazrul songs, a path that eventually defined her career.
Although best known for Nazrul Sangeet, Ferdous Ara has occasionally performed modern songs for films, television dramas and special programmes over the years. She recalled releasing a modern songs album titled "Moner Pakhi Katha Koy" through HMV in the 1990s, after which she did not pursue another album in the genre for many years.
The idea for a comeback emerged recently while recording a new song titled "Aha Ki Shundor Ghuri". The experience inspired her to begin work on a full-length album of contemporary songs.
Tentatively titled "Prem", the album is expected to feature 10 tracks. Work on five songs has already been completed, while the remaining recordings are expected to be finished soon.
According to the singer, the new album has been designed with contemporary listeners in mind, both in its lyrical themes and musical arrangements. In addition to an audio release, music videos are planned for each song and will be unveiled gradually.
