Fight Director Arman steps in as presidential candidate for Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association Election

Actor Bapparaj was expected to contest for the post of president in the upcoming election of the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association. However, he withdrew from the race at the last moment due to personal and family commitments.

Bapparaj had been set to contest alongside actress Rumana Islam Mukti on the same panel. Following his withdrawal, veteran fight director and actor Arman has been nominated to run for the presidency instead.

Arman is no stranger to the association’s leadership. He most recently served as acting general secretary and has held several positions within the organisation’s executive committee over the years.

Speaking about his decision to enter the race, Arman said that the encouragement he received from both senior and junior artistes played a key role in his candidacy.

“I have decided to contest for the post of president at the request of fellow artistes. Whenever I have participated in previous elections, the artistes have never disappointed me. I hope they will once again place their trust in me and allow me to serve,” he said.

Mukti explained that personal and business commitments prompted Bapparaj’s withdrawal.

“Bapparaj bhai is unable to take part in the election because of his personal and professional obligations. As a result, and in response to the interest shown by general members, Arman Mama has agreed to contest for the presidency. Wehave finalised a strong panel of respected artistes. If elected, we will work for the welfare of the artistes and continue to prove ourselves through our actions,” she said.

Meanwhile, film producer-director Kamal Md Kibria Lipu has been appointed chief election commissioner for the forthcoming polls. Renowned filmmaker Chhotku Ahmed, a multiple recipient of the National Film Award, will serve as head of the appeal board.

The biennial election for the 2026–28 term of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association is scheduled to take place on July 3.
