Mechanix loses two members ahead of new album release
Bangladeshi rock band Mechanix has completed two decades of its musical journey and is preparing to release a new album. However, alongside the exciting announcement, the band has shared some disappointing news with fans. Guitarist Saif Irfan and bassist Soumik Islam are leaving the band.
Mechanix announced the departure through a Facebook post, asking, “Is this the end of a chapter, or the beginning of something new?”
In the post, the band wrote that Soumik Islam and Saif Irfan, two important members of their journey, would no longer be part of the current line-up. The band thanked them for their dedication, contribution and love, saying their role in the history of Mechanix would always be remembered.
The band also revealed details about its second album, titled “Ojoggo”. The band described it as more than just a collection of songs, calling it a confession, a protest and a story of rising from the ruins of broken dreams.
Mechanix co-founder and vocalist Aftabuzzaman Tridib said to Prothom Alo that changes in a band’s line-up are a natural part of its journey. He noted that Saif and Soumik joined the band in 2018 and that they had shared many memorable moments over the past eight years.
Tridib said the two members had been facing difficulties in giving enough time to the band due to their busy schedules. Although efforts had been made to resolve the situation, no solution could be reached. Eventually, both members formally informed the band of their decision to leave.
He added that the band wishes them success in their future endeavours and that the names of the new members will be announced soon.
Talking about the new album, Tridib said “Ojoggo” will feature 10 songs. Two tracks from the album, “Ojoggo” and “Kholnayok”, have already been released. The remaining songs will be released over the next four months, with two songs arriving each month.
