Few actors in Bangladesh have earned as much admiration for their craft as Chanchal Chowdhury. From theatre to television, cinema and OTT platforms, the acclaimed performer has built a career defined by versatility and critically acclaimed performances.

A multiple recipient of the National Film Award, Chanchal has also gained recognition beyond Bangladesh through his work in films from both sides of Bengal. His performances have resonated with audiences at home and abroad, with many of his projects being screened internationally.

As the celebrated actor marks his birthday on June 1, four leading actresses shared their thoughts on his talent, personality and contributions to the industry with The Daily Star.

Jaya Ahsan: An acting magician

Award-winning actor Jaya Ahsan described Chanchal as a sensitive artiste and an exceptional human being.

“An artiste must first be a sensitive person, and Chanchal is exactly that. He possesses all the qualities that a great artiste should have and has proven it repeatedly through his performances,” she said.

Calling him “an acting magician”, Jaya added that Chanchal has given audiences years of meaningful entertainment and remains one of the country’s finest performers.

“He is an extraordinary co-artiste. I often joke that if he stopped acting, he could still make a successful career as a stand-up comedian or a professional driver because he is excellent at both,” she said with a laugh.

Azmeri Haque Badhan: A warm and generous person

Actor Azmeri Haque Badhan praised Chanchal’s warmth and hospitality, recalling their years of collaboration.

“He is an incredibly sincere and kind person. I have visited his home and both he and his wife have always been very welcoming,” she said.

The two actors have worked together in numerous television dramas and shared the screen in “Bonolota Express”.

“We have many memories from that project, including rehearsing together. Beyond acting, he is also a talented singer and painter. On his special day, I wish him happiness, love and continued success,” she added.

Zakia Bari Mamo: A complete artiste

According to Zakia Bari Mamo, Chanchal is one of the rare performers capable of adapting to any role.

“He is a complete artiste. Whether in television, cinema or OTT, he has succeeded in every medium,” she said.

Mamo, who also worked alongside Chanchal in “Bonolota Express”, credited his dedication and talent for the critical acclaim his projects have received.

“He is unmatched as a co-actor and a wonderful human being. His performances continue to inspire audiences and fellow actors alike,” she said.

Bidya Sinha Mim: He gives everything to his work

Actor Bidya Sinha Saha Mim highlighted Chanchal’s professionalism and commitment to his craft.

“He is completely devoted to acting. Whether it’s television, film or OTT, he approaches every project with the same passion and sincerity,” she said.

Although the two have not appeared together in a film, Mim said she has closely followed his cinematic work.

“He remains deeply focused while performing and always respects his co-actors. That is one of the reasons his work stands out,” she said. “I hope he continues acting for many more years. Wishing him a very happy birthday.”
