‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ to return with sequel after 23 years
A sequel to "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" is reportedly in the works, more than two decades after the original romantic comedy became a box-office success. Kate Hudson, who starred in the 2003 film, is set to produce the new project.
The sequel is still in the "very early days" of development, according to US media reports. Sources have also indicated that Hudson, 47, and Matthew McConaughey, 56, may return to reprise their roles as Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry.
In the original film, Hudson played Andie, a magazine journalist who sets out to write an article about modern dating. She makes a bet with her editor that she can make a man fall out of love with her within 10 days. Her target is Benjamin, played by McConaughey, who is simultaneously trying to win a bet of his own by making a woman fall for him.
Hudson will produce the sequel with Stacey Sher, whose credits include "Pulp Fiction" and "Matilda".
Released in 2003, "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" earned nearly $180 million worldwide. The film also made an impact on fashion, with the yellow silk Carolina Herrera dress worn by Hudson becoming one of its most memorable style moments.
Hudson's most recent film appearance was in "Song Sung Blue" in 2025, a performance that earned her a second Oscar nomination. She previously received her first Academy Award nomination for "Almost Famous" in 2001.
McConaughey, meanwhile, has starred in films including "Dallas Buyers Club", for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2014, as well as "The Wedding Planner" and "Magic Mike". He also shared the screen with Hudson in the 2008 adventure comedy "Fool's Gold".
The planned sequel comes amid Hollywood's growing interest in revisiting popular films from the past. It follows the recently released "The Devil Wears Prada 2", which arrived 20 years after the original and, coincidentally, also centred on a magazine employee named Andy, played by Anne Hathaway.
