Artistes need work, not grants: Ilias Kanchan
Renowned actor Ilias Kanchan is contesting for the position of the President in the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association elections for 2022-2024.
The actor on Sunday arranged a press conference to talk about his presidential bid and how he is going to bring changes in the association.
Ilias Kanchan has formed a panel with actress Nipun who would be competing for the position of General Secretary in the January 28 elections.
"Artistes need work, not grants. Why should artistes have to starve for films? We will make sure that more movies are made so that the artistes can thrive. Many have come up to me and complained that the current organising committee has created rivalry with other organisations. If we continue to have problems within our fraternity, then we will not be able to develop the industry," mentioned the actor.
"Government really wants to help our film industry. Our honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina truly loves BFDC, which was established by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Many told me that they need a leader like me in the committee so I joined the elections," added the actor.
The actor also talked about how his son encouraged him to help the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association by taking up an important role.
"Baba, you don't have anything to gain from the association. You have done so much for this country and it's high time you do something for the organisation, which you are from. This is what my son said to me," he shared.
Riaz, Nipun, Emon, Simon, producer Khorshed Alam Khosru and director Badiul Alam Khokon, among many others, were present at the press conference.
