Chanchal Chowdhury on his Eid specials and upcoming ventures

Shah Alam Shazu

National Award-winning actor Chanchal Chowdhury has become a household name with his natural screen presence. Be it theatre, television, or films, he has been thoroughly praised by the audience and critics alike. Three seven-episode Eid special tele-fiction, featuring Chanchal Chowdhury are currently on air. In a candid chat with The Daily Star, the "Monpura" famed actor talks about his Eid specials, upcoming projects, and more.

Three of your Eid specials are currently on air on Bangla Vision. Do you feel this can be a little monotonous for your audience?

While choosing these three projects, I had no idea that they are going to be telecasted on the same channel. All the three Eid special drama serials are based on distinct stories and they are also being aired on different schedules. As an actor, I have played diverse characters in these productions. Speaking of monotony, rather than thinking that it's me on the television screen, the audience will get to see me in three different roles on the same platform and enjoy three varied genres this Eid.

Tell us something about the plots of your Eid special tele-fictions.

The Salahuddin Lavlu directorial drama serial "O Pakhi Tor Jontrona" is a supernatural fiction that I found very interesting. On the other hand, the family drama "Moghol", directed by Dipu Zahid portrays how bloodline and family traditions births ego within individuals and later results in their downfall. On the flip side, Masud Sezan's "Fokir Mojnu" narrates the story of a common service holder.

You have often chosen scripts that highlight the customs, traditions, and characters of the rural regions of Bangladesh. Do you wish to keep this trend up?

Stories that radiate the essence of our culture and focuses on society have always drawn me. Human stories and real-life-based plots are the ones I enjoy working on most. I have appeared in stories that are set in cities too, however, I keenly enjoy exploring the social complexities that reside in the rural areas.

You have been praised on both OTT platforms and television for your recent performances. As an actor, is there any difference when it comes to the working experience as an actor on these two platforms?

Web series offers bigger budgets and thus, it feels more like shooting for a film. Sadly, the budget for tele-fictions is limited and thus, the resources or areas to improvise or experiment on is also limited.

What films are you currently working on?

I am waiting for a theatrical release of my films "Paap Punno" and "Hawa". "Paap Punno" is directed by Giasuddin Selim whereas Mezbaur Rahman Sumon has directed "Hawaa".
