Cinemaking International Festival 2021 underway

The second edition of Cinemaking International Film Festival commenced at the International Mother Language Institute yesterday.

The four-day festival has been organised to mark the golden jubilee of Bangladesh, and in honour of the valiant freedom fighters of our country.

The inaugural ceremony showcased Md Selim Khan's movie "August 1975".  Education Minister Dipu Moni was present as chief guest at the festival's inaugural ceremony while theatre activist Ataur Rahman presided over the programme.

Dipu Moni talked about the negative impact of forcing children to study all the time.

"Parents should not force their own dreams and aspirations onto their children. Kids should pursue topics which they are keen on studying. Apart from the general education, there should be more emphasis on film making and technical education as well," mentioned Dipu Moni.

Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste Monoranjan Ghoshal, President of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote Ghulam Quddus and filmmaker Sohanur Rahman Sohan were present as special guests at the inaugural ceremony of the film festival.

Filmmakers from 121 countries submitted 1,000 films to the event. An international jury of 51 members selected 500 foreign and 100 Bangladeshi films for the event.

The festival will feature international seminars at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy today and tomorrow.

Children's art competition, recitation competition, cultural show and master class will be organised at Shahajpath High School tomorrow.

The festival will conclude on Thursday with an award ceremony at the International Mother Language Institute. Besides, the Anjan Aich-directed film "Agamikal" will be screened at the venue.
