It's really hard to articulate the memories experienced 50 years ago. A lot of memories come as flashbacks while some have simply faded away.

One memory that will stay throughout my life is winning the war. The memories of taking up arms and fighting in the battlefield to liberate my country is something that I cherish the most in my life. I left my house on my leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's call to join the war. Nothing meant more to me at that time except to fight and free my country from the shackles of the Pakistani forces.

I was stationed at a place called Ati in Keraniganj and during that time I saw many of my comrades dying mercilessly during the brutal war.

On December 16, 1971, we were still on the battlefield and as soon as we heard the news about our victory, I emptied my sten guns and enjoyed the moment with my soldier friends at Keraniganj.

I hugged and cried out loud with one of my comrades at the battlefield. These were the cries of joy on finally achieving victory.

The scenes in the battlefield invoked a mixture of emotions. Some were jumping on the ground upon hearing the good news.  After all that crying, we fired up our guns and stared deeply at the big blue sky which was finally ours.

Throughout the battlefield, the one thing that kept me alert was the words of Bangabandhu and his invigorating speech which ignited within me the passion to leave my house and take part in the war.
