I miss the rush of the theatres, the fans: Shakib Khan

Zahid Akbar

National Award-winning actor Shakib Khan has been ruling over the silver screen for years now. While the film industry has seen serious losses during the coronavirus pandemic, around 40 of his old releases were aired on television over the past one and a half years. His new film, "Nabab LLB" premiered worldwide this Eid Ul-Adha. In a candid chat with The Daily Star, the popular actor shares his experience and expectations from this new release and talks about his upcoming project.

No new films have graced the cinema halls for 4 consecutive Eids now due to the pandemic. How much do you miss seeing yourself on the silver screen?

It feels like everyone is beyond my control. Being a part of this world, I am no stranger to the struggles everyone is undergoing right now, be it the economic crisis, or the absence of mindfulness. For me, films are a source of positivity. The light of the silver screen, the echo of clapping hands, and the rush in front of movie theatres—I miss it all!

OTT platforms have emerged as a silver lining for the entertainment industry during this pandemic. Tell us a bit about your expectations from this new revolution.

Evolution is an inevitable process and this progression looks very promising to me in the longer run. While the whole world is inclining towards the fourth industrial revolution, which we term as digitalisation, why should the entertainment sector lag behind?  I have been approached for OTT projects and currently, I am in talks for a few ventures. I promise that I will soon come with something for the online streaming audience.

How have you been holding up during this pandemic?

I always prefer to stay fit and I have spent notable hours on regular physical training. Also, II am a film bug myself and this pandemic has given me the time and privilege to enjoy local and international releases. Other than that, I was able to spend quality time with my family friends, and other dear ones.

What are your upcoming projects?

I am looking forward to two productions – "Antaratma" and "Leader: Amie Bangladesh". The Wazed Ali Sumon directorial film "Antaratma" is produced by Sohani Haider. On the other hand, "Leader: Amie Bangladesh" is an RTV production, directed by Topu Khan.
