Those who witnessed the Liberation War can never forget any part of that historical time period. They will be in my memories for as long as I live.  At that time, we used to go to different camps in groups. Visiting camps, we used to encourage the freedom fighters through plays and songs. Even though it was a very difficult phase, I cherish it as the best time of my life. Thinking about those days takes me back to my early youth.

I was under Sector 9 and came to Satkhira a few days before December 16. We lived in a bungalow near Satkhira College with other freedom fighters. We were already getting news of the defeat of Pakistani Army while living there. That news was assuring us that we are very close to our victory.

When our victory was finally confirmed, it brought me so much joy and excitement. "Joy Bangla" slogans were chanted all around by everyone. The chants reflected their joy and happiness. Still, there remained some Biharis and Razakars who were roaming around. After the confirmation they ran away towards the other side of Satkhira.

At that point, the celebration for our victory began. In the afternoon, when we heard the news from Satkhira that Pakistani soldiers have surrendered, we were filled with joy. Some people cheered by firing with SLR. We started out celebrations through "Joy Bangla" slogans.

Every house in that area of Satkhira waved the national flag after hearing about our victory. Memories of waving the flag of a newly independent Bangladesh are still fresh in my mind. It was such a proud and emotional moment that some of us burst into tears of joy. We left for Khulna after December 16.
