The Silent Sea: Gong Yoo, Bae Doona star in riveting trailer

Netflix premiered the trailer of "The Silent Sea" yesterday. The project is an upcoming Korean sci-fi thriller series; starring "Train to Busan" famed star Gong Yoo, and "Sense8" actress Bae Doona. The show will stream on Netflix on December 24.

In the trailer, the audiences are informed of the Earth's catastrophic conditions and water scarcity problems, because of desertification. It further features the secrets encompassing a crew of astronauts sent to a deserted lunar base. They find a perplexing sample, which might contain the solution to overcoming the Earth's diminishing natural resources.

However, circumstances takes a tragic turn when the crew discovers dead bodies inside that abandoned research base, before completing their mission.

The thriller is being directed by Choi Hang Yong, based on his 2014 short film, "The Sea of Tranquility". It is being produced and executive-produced by Artist Studio and lauded South Korean actor Jung Woo Sung, respectively.

After a spate of recent triumphs of projects like "Squid Game" and "Hellbound", "The Silent Sea" is expected to extend Netflix's goal in making K-dramas accessible to the Western market.

If "The Silent Sea" sees the same success as the aforementioned series, Netflix has another winner on its hands due to its stellar cast, big-budget set pieces, and promising storyline.
