2 killed in shootout

Two alleged criminals were killed in separate “incidents of gunfight” between police and their cohorts in Kishoreganj yesterday and Dhaka on Monday.

One of the deceased was identified as Fadur Ali, 35, alias Fazar Ali Ripon of Dari Ghaghotia in Bajitpur of Kishoreganj, police said.

According to police, Fadur was an accused in 15 cases, including five murder cases and an arms case, lodged with Bajitpur Police Station, reports our correspondent in Mymensingh.

Md Makbul Hossain Mollah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bajitpur Police Station, said a police team arrested Fadur from Belabo in Narsingdi Wednesday afternoon. 

Police, taking Fadur with them, went on a drive in the remote Sadirchar area of Gazirpur to recover firearms around 3:00am yesterday, the police official said.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Fadur's associates opened fire on the team and police retaliated with fire, said the OC.

At one stage, Fadur Ali was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.

Three policemen, Sub-inspector Aminul Islam, 35, and constables Shakhawat Hossain, 45, and Rukon, 45, were injured in the incident and were admitted to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital.

Police recovered four firearms, including two foreign pistols, a revolver and nine bullets, from the scene.

The body was sent to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Meanwhile in Dhaka, an alleged leader of a gang of robbers group was killed in a “gunfight” in Hatirjheel area on Monday.

The deceased was identified Al Amin, 28, who had several aliases. He is wanted in seven cases, Mazedul Huq, sub-inspector of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station, told The Daily Star.

Amin, hailed from Raipura of Narsingdi. He died on the spot when a “group of robbers opened fire on law enforcers” sensing the presence of a police petrol team and the team retaliated with gunfire, the SI said.

A revolver and three bullets were recovered from the spot, he added.
