Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing

Members of Indian Border Security Force shot dead a Bangladeshi cattle trader and injured another near Datbhanga border in Kurigram's Roumari upazila early yesterday.

The deceased is Tulu Mia, 60, son of late Asmat Ali of Kauarchar village in the upazila. The injured is Shifat Hossain, 35, son of Mozahar Ali of Dharmapur village in the same upazila.

According to Border Guard Bangladesh and locals, a group of Bangladeshi cattle traders went near border pillar No 1057 at Dharmapur to bring cattle early in the morning. Around 5:30am, a BSF patrol team of Gudligaon BOP camp opened fire on them. Tulu and Shifat were hit by bullets and Tulu died on the spot.

Locals said other members of the group brought Tulu's body from the spot and left it on a road nearly 200 yards from the no-man's-land.

Nayek Subedar Mohammad Ali, Datbhanga company commander of 35 BGB battalion in Jamalpur, said, “I heard about the incident around 7:00am and rushed to the spot. Later, I sent a protest letter to BSF. A flag meeting was held near the border at 11:00am in this regard.”

“BSF denied its involvement, but we challenged it. Tulu's body was handed to Roumari police,” he said.
