Tigers' opener washed out

Bangladesh's tri-series opener against Ireland yesterday saw the Tigers recover from 70 for four through an 87-run fifth-wicket stand between Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad, but it all came to nothing as afternoon rain at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin caused the match to be abandoned and the points shared.

Bangladesh had reached 157 for four in 31.1 overs with Tamim hitting his 35th ODI half-century.

The left-handed opener was batting on an 88-ball 64 with eight fours, while Mahmudullah was looking good for his 17th half-century having reached 43 off 56 balls with four fours and a six when weather intervened.

Earlier, Bangladesh's top order suffered a mini-collapse after being asked to bat on a green pitch. Opener Soumya Sarkar was caught behind for five, and Sabbir Rahman played a terrible slog to be out for a duck. Even the usually reliable Mushfiqur Rahim was out playing away from his body, before stand-in skipper Shakib Al Hasan departed trying to hit his third consecutive boundary. Ireland seamer Peter Chase took three wickets, but the home side's effort was an undisciplined one as they bowled 15 wides.
