The investigation committee formed over the deaths of six newborns at Ad-din Medical College Hospital will submit its full report on June 3, as the statements of the mothers have not yet been collected, Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain said today.

“We couldn’t receive the report today. The committee needed more time because the mothers’ statements were still pending. Their accounts will be included in the final report,” he said while speaking to reporters at the Directorate General of Health Services.

He added that the mothers were traumatised and had returned to their homes. The committee would now reach out to them to understand what happened on the day of the incident.

“The statements of the mothers are very important here. We are waiting for them,” the minister said, adding that all other aspects of the probe had already been completed.

He further said the incident at the hospital was extremely tragic and assured that strict action would follow the findings of the committee.

“There will be no leniency. Measures will follow the report’s recommendations. We will not spare anyone,” he told reporters.

Earlier, a case was filed over the deaths of the six newborns, bringing charges of the hospital’s negligence that led to the fatalities.

Habibur Rahman, the father of one of the newborns, filed the case with Ramna Police Station, without naming any individuals. The hospital authorities have been made the accused.

No arrests have been made so far, said Sheikh Zahidul Islam, the Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division Police.

“The complaint did not mention any names. We are investigating who is responsible for the incident. Once identified, we will take legal action against them,” he told The Daily Star.
