Govt renames 3 public health facilities, drops AL-linked names
The government has renamed three public health facilities in Sirajganj and Madaripur, removing the names of political figures associated with the Awami League from their titles.
According to a notification issued by the Health Services Division yesterday, the order was made in the public interest and took immediate effect.
Under the order, Shahid M Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital in Sirajganj has been renamed Sirajganj Medical College Hospital.
Monsur Ali, a prominent organiser of the Liberation War, served as prime minister from the Awami League. He was also the father of former health minister Mohammed Nasim.
The 20-bed Sheikh Hasina Trauma Hospital in Mulibari, Sirajganj, has been renamed the 20-bed Trauma Hospital, Mulibari.
Sheikh Hasina was ousted as prime minister following a mass uprising in August 2024.
The 20-bed Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury Trauma Centre in Shibchar, Madaripur, has been renamed the 20-bed Trauma Centre, Shibchar.
Ilias Ahmed Chowdhury was a former Awami League leader and the father of Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton, a former Awami League chief whip in parliament.
